Mana (Memento)

Image
Mana Wood, Ink, Gel Medium 2" x 2" x 2" This sculpture reflects times when I'm finally able to go home from college. Since I get there before my sister wakes, I always startle her awake in her bed as a surprise. The yellow reflects both the color of her room and the warm joy I have at being able to return home again. The wood represents the many years we've grown up with one another. The gel medium is the glue, representing our bond.  Inspiration Lenka Clayton Anthony Roussel Chris Weaver

Construction (Organic Sculpture)

Image
Contraction  Wood, Yarn, Ink, Hot Glue, Tape, Wire  6"x 4" x "4 My intent was to visual communicate contrusction imagery into these sculptures. I wanted to focus on that imagery because I believe that art can be a very chaotic process that can also have structure, similar to contraction sites. The making of these sculptures exposed me to ideas of letting my process be messy to then later refine.  Inspiration  Mary Button Durell Alexis Granwell Silvia Heger

Dove and the Lamb (Visual Symbols)

Image
The Dove Clay, Ink 6" x 5" 5"   The Lamb Clay, Ink, Wire 6" x 3" x 4" The ceramic sculptures entitled The Dove and The Lamb were inspired by biblical symbols, specially about the importance both animals have in the holy books. These sculptures are a commentary about the excuses made for religious extremism. The Scent Calling home (Relief Sculpture)

Image
The Scent Calling Back Home Premium Paper, Plastic Bag, Acrylic Paint, Ink, 3D Printed Materials, Hot Glue 10 x 14 x 1.5 inches The Sculpture explores all the little things that can remind someone of home. There are four elements of my own personal callings of home, the most noticeable one being the Clorox scent coming off the piece. The other elements are the fake flowers and plants, which my mother has plenty of, the honeycombs for the bees that come during spring back home, and the mass amount of plastic bags our family collects. Each are their own calling of home to me, which is why it hold significance to me. Elsa Mora Nori Koambe Hannah Vogel

On Longing

Image
"The Body is the primarily made of perceiving scale" It's weird to think how much my sister and I have grown in a few years. We could hide away in a cardboard box, be surrounded in it, be a little more carefree. We don't have that luxury anymore. "The Souvenir sparks to a moment of origin, through a language of longing, for it is not an object arising out of need or use of value" Loki is my youngest dog, he's about 10. Obviously I don't think of him as an object but not a day goes by where I don't miss him. My mom tells me he's just the same. Just four more weeks until I can see him again. "The Souvenir reduces the public, the momental, and the three dimensional into the miniature, that which can be developed by the body." The man's name is Henry but I grew up calling him Jun Jun. The nene there is Luke, his baby and technically my god nephew. When I first met him he was fascinated by my hair and I could easily cover him with
